4th Sunday Woods Walk Following Worship
Starting this August, the Stewardship of the Earth Committee invites you to join a walk through our own beautiful wooded grounds following worship on the 4th Sunday of each month.
Mindfulness for the Spiritual Journey
"Mindfulness for the Spiritual Journey" is a 10-week class that integrates humanity's wisdom traditions with insights from modern neuroscience to support spiritual transformation. Facilitator Glenn Terndrup (some of you might know him from the Everyday Mysticism nurture group), a retired biology teacher and yoga instructor, is passionate about the role that mindfulness plays in the spiritual journey.
The first class will lay a foundation of mindfulness by exploring different meditation techniques and the impact they have on the brain. Successive classes will explore: controlling mental chatter, cultivating curiosity and self-compassion, finding our place in community, regulating stress, harnessing the power of emotions, experiencing grace and awe, and overcoming the brain's negativity bias. Each class will end with a time to explore meditation as a tool for integrating the spiritual qualities discussed.
The class will meet on Thursday evenings from 7:00–8:30 p.m. The first class will be held on Thursday, September 10, in the library. After the first session, the course will continue every Thursday evening in the Fireside Room and conclude on Thursday, November 19 (there will be no class on October 15). Attendance at every class is not required as classes do not build directly on one another.
CFM Music Series – Save the date for a concert by Michael Borack and his band, The Source.

CFM Concert Series - Michael Borack will be presenting his band's (The Source) seventh album, "Terra Nova" on August 16th from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Members of the band will be present as well. The album, 16 original songs, will be played one song at a time with Michael telling the stories of how each song came to be. There will be time in between for questions and comments, and Graeter's Ice Cream for all at the end! The flyer is attached. More are available on the table.
Library News & Request
Please hold any library donations for the time being. We currently have a backlog of books to review and processing, and need to find additional shelf space before accepting more donations.
When we are able to resume accepting books, all donations must include your name. A slip of paper inside the book is fine. Also note on the slip if you would like the book returned to you if it does not get added to the library.
As we make room on our shelves, we encourage donations of books that have been meaningful to you or that you believe would be a good fit for our library and community.
Wanted – Feedback on Our Website
Cincinnati Friends Meeting has contracted with a web developer to make some important upgrades and technical fixes to our website. As part of that process, we have an opportunity to make some cosmetic changes to the website. Down the road, we may also update the copy and navigation as well.
We invite all folks associated with Cincinnati Friends Meeting to share their thoughts on our current website. Please send a brief email to office@cincinnatifriends.org
Monday Morning Hiking Group
Monday Morning Hiking Group meets at 9 am at the designated hiking location for the month. We are a group of typically 5-9 individuals meeting up weekly. We will typically hike 2-4 miles (a faster group and a slower group). Hiking is followed by meeting up at a nearby coffee shop for your favorite beverage and conversation. Places we have hiked previously are the Glenwood Gardens, Ault Park, Devou Park, Winton Woods, Cincinnati Nature Center and others - We have hiked in about 14 different locations so far. Anyone who is interested in getting regular updates on our monthly locations, and joining us, please reach out to Beth Brubacher bbrubacher@zoomtown.comKroger Community Rewards Program
Kroger pays up to $1,250,000 on a quarterly basis to participating organizations based on their percentage of spending as it relates to the total spending of all participating Kroger Community Rewards Organizations.
To support Cincinnati Friends Meeting through your Kroger purchases, go to www.krogercommunityrewards.com and choose Cinti Monthly Meeting/Religious Society of Friends, code: pi373.
Once a household member enrolls their card, all linked Kroger Plus Cards within that household begin earning rewards. The Peace and Social Concerns Committee disperses these funds to local organizations supported by the Meeting. Feel free to share our Kroger number with friends and family. Every time a member, attender, family, family friend, or neighbor of our Meeting shops at Kroger and uses their Kroger Plus Card, we earn rewards!
Sunday Hospitality Information
On the first & third Sundays of each month we welcome all to join together in the Fireside Room for fellowship and a potluck lunch after meeting for worship. Feel free to bring any type of "potluck" food to share (prepared dishes you can readily set out). Labels are appreciated and please include information such as dairy free, gluten free, vegan, etc. Please join us!
We’d love for everyone to bring a small contribution to our Sunday potlucks! Don’t worry — items absolutely do not have to be homemade. There are plenty of easy options you can grab during the week or on your way, like a potato salad from the deli, rolls, chips and salsa, a fruit platter, pie, brownies, pasta salad, or cheese and crackers. Every contribution helps make the table full and festive. We’re just grateful you’re joining us!
Coffee will be offered after every Sunday service in the Fireside room to give folks a chance to mingle.

Food Bank Sunday
Food Pantry Sundays
Cincinnati Friends Meeting supports local food pantries by collecting non-perishable food and personal care items at our meetinghouse. (Plastic tubs for contributions are located in the entryway.) Although we collect these donations throughout the year, we put special emphasis on doing so on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. On these day, we give particular thought to the hungry in our community.
The Peace & Social Concerns Committee is contributing CFM’s donations to the Loveland Life Pantry. Currently, Freestore Foodbank does not accept individual donations.
Current greatest need at Loveland Life Pantry:
SENIORS: Ensure/Boost
FOOD: Canned Chicken, Canned Fruit, Mixed Vegetables, Canned Carrots, Cereal, Coffee, Flour, Manwich/Sloppy Joe, Ramen, Spaghetti
HOUSEHOLD & PAPER GOODS: Dish Soap, Laundry Detergent, Paper Towels
Weather Cancellation Procedures
Sundays:
Jim Newby, in consultation with the Clerk of Ministry & Counsel, the Presiding Clerk, and the Clerk of Trustees, will decide whether worship is canceled.
Weekdays & Saturdays:
The Clerk of Trustees, in consultation with the company that plows our drive, will determine when to close and reopen the meetinghouse for meetings and events, based on property conditions related to access and safety. Separate committees can then decide whether or not to meet if we are open.
Committees will communicate their cancellations when the meetinghouse is open but bad weather is expected.
Communications:
Cancellations and updates will be posted in a red banner at the top of our website and sent by email. If you are not on our email list, see the information below.
